Makki has an excellent relationship with the artisans who make their designs. Makki does not negotiate on the designers price, uses the finest quality materials, and consistently pays upfront. When possible, they visit places of work and ensure good quality working conditons are maintained.

Eel skin products by Makki:

Makki uses the finest grade of eelskin. The skin is much softer than cowhide although it is approximately 3 times stronger. The designs are hand made and hand dyed. The eelskin is a byproduct of the food industry. The eels are not farmed for the fashion industry.

Designs are treated with a leather protector spray at the production stage, although if you wish to further protect your eel skin, please use a leather protector spray and to clean, a leather cleaner.

Makki often have customers remark they have been using eelskin wallets or purses for over 20 years, and how soft the skin becomes over time, proving the durability of the skin. Makki eelskin is extremely durable, although care must be taken around alcohol, as with most dyes, alcohol can affect the colour.

Treater with care, the designs last for many years and will become softer with use.
